Functional Movement Systems (FMS)

Many of our therapists have been trained to perform Functional Movement Screens that aid in the detection of physical limitations. Based on the concept that the body performs at its maximum capability when all of its areas are working properly, functional movement screens are used to identify weaknesses in areas of the body that may lead to injury in that or another part of the body.

Whether the patient is a student athlete competing in school sports competitions or anyone  who enjoys regular physical activity, functional movement screens can detect weakness before it leads to a serious injury. Our therapists will lead the patient through a series of seven fundamental movement patterns for which a score will be determined based on how well each pattern is performed. If weaknesses are determined, an individualized corrective exercise program will be recommended for the patient. After four weeks, the patient will be re-evaluated.
